CPISRA is having their World Games in Nottingham, August 2015. See Events.
International Bowls for the Disabled has its origins in the family of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), one of the largest sporting organisations in the world and the peak international body governing sport for athletes with a disability.
Formerly a sport on the programme of the Paralympic Games, bowls was excluded from this high profile world event in 1996. There were two reasons for this; we had insufficient nations participating in the sport and it was not a sport on the calendar of the Summer Olympic Games. Although included in the EAD sports at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002 bowlers with a disability have also been excluded from this major competition.
Faced with an uncertain future, the member nations of IPC Bowls at the Sports Assembly in Australia in 2002 voted unanimously to form a new international federation, become independent and create their own boundaries within which they could control their destiny. A draft constitution for the new federation was formally adopted at the Sports Assembly held in Malaysia in 2004 and International Bowls for the Disabled (IBD) was incorporated in Australia in 2005.
